I’m Feeling Defeated and I desperately need your help.
One thing you’ll probably notice if you’ve been hanging around here for a while is that my blog doesn’t exactly follow the “rules.”
Most bloggers carefully spread their content across different pillars. One week it’s recipes, the next it’s travel, then self-care, then DIY. Everything is planned, balanced, and beautifully color-coded on a content calendar.
Meanwhile…
I’m over here writing about whatever is currently living rent-free in my brain.
If it’s weighing heavily on my heart, chances are that’s what you’ll be reading about.
I’ve always promised to keep things real here, and I’m not about to stop now.
The truth is, I never started Just Me Jenrie because I wanted to become some mega influencer with a perfectly curated life and an Instagram feed that looks like it belongs in a magazine.
That’s just… not me.
I don’t have it all figured out.
I don’t wake up every morning overflowing with confidence.
I don’t have all the answers.
Some days I barely have matching socks.
What I do have is a desire to build something that matters.
I want this little corner of the internet to feel like sitting around a kitchen table with your favorite people, coffee in hand, hair probably in a messy bun, and nobody pretending they’ve got life completely under control.
Because let’s be honest…
None of us do.
My goal has never been to tell people what they should be doing.
My goal is to remind people that they’re not doing life alone.
I want this to be a place where we encourage each other, support each other, laugh together, cry together, and cheer each other on while we’re all trying to become the best versions of ourselves.
Because life isn’t just full of little bumps.
Sometimes it’s hurdles.
Sometimes it’s hills.
Sometimes it’s mountains.
And occasionally…
It’s a crater that you somehow didn’t see coming, and now you’re standing in it wondering what in the world just happened.
I know I can’t be the only one.
So why not climb out together?
Here’s where I’m struggling.
I am, by nature, a huge introvert.
No surprise there.
Although, I can be pretty outgoing once I’m comfortable.
I love people… in reasonable doses. I can chat, laugh, and have a great time, but afterward I need some quiet to recharge. That’s the introvert in me.
I work from home most of the time.
My daily social interaction usually consists of cashiers at the grocery store, wandering the aisles of Target convincing myself I don’t need to take on another project just because something there inspired me (I usually lose that battle), or treasure hunting through thrift stores.
Not exactly a thriving social life.
Over the last couple of years, though, I’ve really been pushing myself outside of my comfort zone.
Baby steps.
Very tiny baby steps.
One of the best decisions I’ve made was joining a business and lifestyle center where I get to spend time around other creatives.
It’s been amazing.
Being surrounded by people who are building businesses, chasing dreams, and creating things has reminded me that I’m capable of more than I sometimes give myself credit for.
But…
That brings me to another problem.
Goals cost money.
Whether they’re personal goals…
Business goals…
Home goals…
Travel goals…
Almost every dream seems to have a price tag attached to it.
And right now, as someone with very little income…
The math just isn’t mathing.
Now let me clarify something because this is important.
I do not believe my value as a person is measured by how much money I make.
Not even a little.
I’m not chasing money because I think it’ll somehow make me “worthy.”
I’m chasing the freedom that money can provide.
The freedom to support my family.
The freedom to travel.
The freedom to create.
The freedom to give.
The freedom to stop saying, “Maybe someday.”
Like so many people, I would absolutely love to build a life where my passion helps fund my dreams.
Which sounds wonderful…
Until you realize I’m still trying to figure out exactly what that passion looks like.
Here’s the funny thing.
I have a lot of interests.
Actually…
That’s an understatement.
I have approximately 4,287 interests.
Thank you, ADHD.
If you’ve got ADHD too, you already know exactly what I’m talking about.
I don’t just enjoy new hobbies.
I adopt them.
I become convinced I’ve found the thing.
I research it.
I buy supplies.
I watch seventeen YouTube videos.
I make notes and sketches.
I tell everyone about it.
I rearrange my life around it.
And then…
One random Tuesday…
My brain collectively decides,
“Nah.”
Cue the next obsession.
It’s exhausting.
It’s exciting.
It’s expensive.
And it’s incredibly confusing when you’re trying to build a business around something you’re passionate about.
Because what if I pour everything into one idea…
…and nobody cares?
Was it the wrong idea?
Did I not market it well?
Do I need to post more?
Post every day?
Post three times a day?
Film videos.
Dance on reels.
Point at floating text.
Shove it down everyone’s throat…
As my husband lovingly says.
Honestly?
That isn’t me.
I don’t want to constantly yell, “LOOK AT ME!”
I’d rather quietly create something meaningful that people genuinely connect with.
But is that enough anymore?
Or is it time…
To pivot?
Again?
Lately I feel like that’s the question I ask myself about every five minutes.
And speaking of pivots…
Let’s talk about my house.
Remember last week’s post?
The one where I admitted my biggest goal right now is finally finishing all the half-completed projects around here?
Yeah…
That.
Picture this.
A house full of unfinished projects.
A workroom that desperately needs to be reorganized.
An office that could probably qualify as an archaeological dig.
Lists.
So many lists.
Sticky notes.
Phone notes.
Notebook notes.
A planner.
A whiteboard.
Probably another list reminding me where I put the other lists.
Now I’m sitting here wondering…
Where do I even begin?
Do I knock out the easy projects first so I can build momentum?
Do I tackle the projects everyone sees first because they’re driving me crazy?
Do I attack the biggest, ugliest project and get it over with?
Do I work outside while the weather is cooperating?
Do I ignore the house completely and focus on growing my business?
Should I pivot my business?
Should I reorganize my workspace before I even attempt to work?
Would a clean office magically create a clean brain?
(If anyone knows the answer to that one, please let me know.)
Because right now…
My brain feels exactly like my house.
A whole lot of unfinished things competing for attention.
And honestly?
I’m overwhelmed.
Not curled-up-on-the-floor overwhelmed (not yet anyway).
Just that constant mental exhaustion that comes from carrying too many decisions all at once.
The kind where everything feels important, so nothing gets done.
If you’ve ever stood in the middle of a messy room and somehow couldn’t decide whether to pick up the laundry, wash the dishes, answer emails, start dinner, organize a closet, or simply hide under a blanket…
Welcome.
You’re my people.
The ironic part is that I know I’m capable.
I’ve accomplished hard things before.
I’ve reinvented myself before.
I’ve stepped outside my comfort zone before.
So I know I’ll figure this out too.
Eventually.
But today?
Today I’m simply admitting that I don’t have the answers.
And maybe that’s okay.
Maybe we spend way too much time thinking we’re supposed to have everything figured out before we move.
Maybe the next right step is enough.
Maybe perfection has been slowing me down more than failure ever could.
Maybe it’s okay to ask for help.
So…
That’s exactly what I’m doing.
I need your help.
Seriously.
How do you decide what deserves your attention first?
When life feels overwhelming, what helps you move forward?
How do you know when it’s time to keep pushing…
…and when it’s time to pivot?
Leave me a comment.
Send me a message.
Share your wisdom, or at least reassure me that I’m not the only one with seventeen unfinished projects and approximately twelve thousand tabs open in my brain.
Because that’s what I want this community to be.
Not a place where we pretend everything is perfect.
A place where we can say,
“I’m struggling.”
“I’m overwhelmed.”
“I don’t know what I’m doing.”
…and hear someone else respond,
“Me too.”
And somehow…
That makes carrying the load just a little bit lighter.
If you’re feeling defeated today, know this:
You’re not behind.
You’re not failing.
You’re not the only one trying to figure it all out.
Neither am I.
And maybe that’s exactly why we’re here.
Just figuring it out together.
One imperfect step at a time.

Sounds familiar..I have a puzzle finished, another over 3/4 finished since November of 25. Frames for the puzzles–1 have no idea how to get it off the card table without messing it up. The other puzzle is a lot of black pieces that drive me nuts!
My suggest to you, add all completed items to your store not just your shirts and as you sell items, you’ll make money and get rid of some of your inventory; which will make you feel better and open your store to more people view.
I completely get it! Those unfinished projects have a way of hanging around and reminding us they’re still waiting. Hopefully you’ll get those puzzles framed and off the card table soon!
And yes, you’re absolutely right. I do have quite a few finished items that I need to get listed in my shop, and that would definitely help clear out some of the clutter while hopefully bringing in a little income too. I don’t plan on giving up on any of it—I think I’m just trying to figure out where to start and whether I need to shift my focus a bit. Sometimes having so many ideas makes deciding on the first step the hardest part.
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and encourage me. I really appreciate it!
